Redemption

Archibald Baxter’s legacy
Pointing the bloodstained finger of blame,
they mocked, accused, abused –
the fight for good misunderstood.
No coward, he held upright the flame.
Staunch in belief,
though bent to the brink
of broken body and mind.
No relief, no peace
in war’s bleak horrors and death.
Through all the pain,
his sacrifice no artifice.
Behold, the man
whose quiet voice became our own
conscience of peace.
Respect his name.
Til his last breath, he did not cease.
Where lies the redemption of humanity?
Take a stand… Take a stand.
What will remain?
We have a choice.
We will not cease.
